We are edging towards the business end of proceedings in the NHL, with the biggest ice hockey competition on the planet already championing the very best of what the sport can offer.
At this stage of the season, bookmaker Pinnacle make the Carolina Hurricanes their favourites to win the Stanley Cup this year, and they are priced at 5.29, but are they ahead at the top of the betting?
| Stanley Cup Winner | Odds |
|---|---|
| Carolina Hurricanes | 5.29 |
| Edmonton Oilers | 5.32 |
| Florida Panthers | 6.22 |
| Colorado Avalanche | 7.11 |
| New York Rangers | 7.96 |
| Boston Bruins | 10.37 |
| Vegas Golden Knights | 11.28 |
| Dallas Stars | 14.93 |
| Rest of the field | 15.38+ |
The Carolina Hurricanes are currently the side to back at this stage of the season, priced at 5.29 with Pinnacle. However, they are barely ahead of the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers, with the top-three all incredibly tight in the betting right now.
Despite being in the top-three betting options at this stage, none of the trio can rest on their laurels according to the odds, with the Colorado Avalanche, New York Rangers, Boston Bruins and Vergas Golden Knights all right behind them.
In the 2022/23 season it was the Vegas Golden Knights that secured the glory as they snatched the Stanley Cup from the Florida Panthers, who ended the season as runners-up.
This season, the Golden Knights are expected to have their say in proceedings, but they are not currently the favourites. However, this may play into the hands of the reigning champions. With so much of the attention currently on the favourites in the Hurricanes, Oilers and Panthers, the Golden Knights can quietly go about their business as they look to notch another title.
Of course, finishing in fourth in the Pacific Division is hardly the greatest record, and it could show that they are actually some way short of the best sides in the competition.
Which team do you think will triumph in the Stanley Cup in 2024? Can the Golden Knights secure another title, or will the Hurricanes and Oilers come through on being the favourites this term?
