New York Yankees at Tampa Bay Rays

The Yankees suffered a serious loss of form after the all-star break that allowed the Houston Astros to leapfrog them into top spot in the American League standings at the time of writing.

However, New York have gradually been putting things back together and have been somewhat rejuvenated by their series sweep over rivals the New York Mets in the Subway Series.

The Yankees followed that up by splitting their series with the Oakland Athletics, but they appear to be getting back into a groove.

This weekend they take on AL East rivals the Tampa Bay Rays in a three-game series and New York will have revenge on their mind.

Tampa won the series at Yankee Stadium in mid-August which included a 4-0 shutout, and the likes of Aaron Judge and Andrew Benintendi will look to make amends for the Yankees.

The Rays are second in the AL East standings and have a 70-57 record at the time of writing, which is currently good enough for a wild-card spot in the MLB playoffs.

However, competition is fierce and this Tampa team will know that every result is vital to their effort in reaching the postseason.

Expect an exciting series between these two but ultimately the Yankees should have the edge to prevail when these teams go toe-to-toe in Tampa.

Washington Nationals at New York Mets

To say the Nationals have had a disastrous season would be a gross understatement, with the team holding the worst record in Major League Baseball at the time of writing and their World Series win in 2019 now feeling like a lifetime ago.

Things are unlikely to get any easier for Washington as they head to New York to contest a three-game series with the Mets this weekend, who have been on fire all season long.

The Mets made plenty of headlines last winter when they brought in star pitcher Max Scherzer, who actually won the World Series with the Nationals, but he has been just one of the many reasons behind their success.

New York’s offence has been tremendous all year long with Pete Alonso and Brandon Nimmo lighting it up to continuously put runs on the board.

Now with Jacob deGrom also back pitching, it’s easy to see why the Mets have the second-best record in all of MLB at the time of writing.

This series is as big of a mismatch as it gets, and the Mets should have no trouble cruising past a Washington team that is in full rebuild mode.

San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers

This weekend’s Padres vs Dodgers series looks to be the most exciting of the week as the two big dogs of the NL West go head to head.

The Dodgers are comfortably ahead of the Padres in the division, but San Diego currently hold a wild-card spot and made plenty of headlines when they brought in star hitter Juan Soto at the MLB trade deadline.

This Padres team is one that feels it is ready to win now and this series against the Dodgers is the perfect opportunity for them to try to prove it.

The Dodgers were the betting favourite to win the World Series at the start of the season and their odds have only gotten shorter as time has gone on.

To put it simply, Los Angeles have been on another level since the all-star break and at the time of writing boast a phenomenal 88-38 record and an outrageous +278 run-differential. To put that run- differential into perspective, the Yankees are second on the list at +197.

Mookie Betts, Trea Turner and Freddie Freeman have all been on fire for the Dodgers all season long and they should help LA outscore the Padres’ rising offence this weekend.
