Alex Pereira is looking to defend his middleweight title for the first time after beating Israel Adesanya to clinch the belt at UFC 281 back in November last year.

Winning by TKO in round five, Pereira was able to secure his third win over his opponent after winning twice before under kickboxing rules.

Having never lost a middleweight fight before this, Adesanya will be desperate to reclaim his title, with his only other loss coming in a battle for the light heavyweight title against Jan Blachowicz.

After unifying the division, he had successfully defended his middleweight title five times after unifying the division with his triumph against Robert Wittaker in October 2019 at UFC 243.

Despite being the defending champion, Perieira comes into the clash as the underdog at 2.220*, while challenger Adesanya is fancied to secure the title he recently lost at 1.709*.

With the pair both coming into this one with kickboxing backgrounds, this one if fancied to be played out with the feet. After trying to utilise grappling in their last meeting, it was clear Adesanya thought he could exploit some weaknesses in Pereira this way. This did not pan out well for the former.

As the more mobile of the two and with a kickboxing record of 75-5, Adesanya is the more nimble of the pair, and he can easily change defence into attack by using his footwork to evade shots before countering.

With the power game more up Pereira's street, this is all about him trying to dominate his opponent physically.

With Pereira usually finding the power route the best one to lead him to wins, this will be all about whether his opponents can stay out of his reach. Landing some good shots in round one of their last clash, Adesanya looked on the cusp of ending the fight early, only for Pereira to rally and eventually win the fight.

This will be a huge challenge for Adesanya, especially as he looks to pick himself up after losing to his opponent mere months ago, and has now lost three times across their battles in MMA and kickboxing. We feel there is value in backing Pereira in this one at 2.220*.
